Dear Ms. Haluska-Rausch,

We, Crystal Arnspiger and Rebecca Smyrl, would like to formally request your permission to conduct a preservation needs assessment of selected materials in the Justice Tom C. Clark collection at the Tarlton Law Library during the Spring semester of 2009. As we have discussed, this assessment will focus on the objects cataloged as "Artifacts" and "Scrapbooks" in the Finding Aid (Sections 5g and 5b respectively).

We will perform the assessment in the Rare Books Room at the Tarlton Law Library on Tuesdays from 9-12 (Rebecca), and Fridays from 9-12 (Crystal). Should deviations from this schedule arise we will provide as much advance notice as possible. We will supply tools and equipment as necessary.

The assessment will result in a written document to be completed by May 5, 2009. This document will include background information on the collection, a description of the survey tools used to complete the assessment, a report of its results, preservation recommendations, and a cost analysis and budget for the recommendations suggested. You will also be invited to attend a presentation of the findings of the assessment on May 5.

We look forward to working with you and with the Justice Tom Clark collection. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Crystal Arnspiger

Rebecca Smyrl
