The Tom C. Clark collection at the Tarlton Law Library is large and varied, containing law papers, bound volumes, scrapbooks, awards, academic hoods, his robe, his chair, a bust, a gavel, and various other artifacts, including two Native American headdresses.
After going over the contents of the collection as listed in the finding aid and speaking with Elizabeth Haluska-Rausch, the librarian in charge of the collection, Rebecca and I feel that it is too large for us to address it as a whole in one semester. We feel the best way to address the needs of the collection and the librarian would be to assess the condition of the collection's artifacts and scrapbooks and focus on the storage of these objects.
The varied nature of the objects presents the greatest challenge as it will require a great deal of research into the proper care of various wood, metal, textiles, paper, plastic, and feathers when stored together and in an environment with limited space and limited resources for climate control.
